DescriptionPerennial forb reaching height of 25 to 90 cm (10 to 36?). Erect stems grow from creeping rootstocks, and entire plant is pubescent and aromatic. It is suited to exposed, disturbed conditions at elevations ranging from 732 m (2,400?) to 3,658 m (12,000?), with soils that are gravelly and fine-textured. ?Great Northern? is specifically adapted to habitats in Montana, Wyoming, and northern Idaho.
SourceCollected 1988 in Flathead National Forest, Flathead County, MT. Subalpine fir and queencup beadlily habitat, on gravelly soil at elevation of 1,100 m (3,800?).
Breeding MethodSingle accession. Compared with 28 other accessions of A millefolium var. occidentalis, chosen on basis of vigor, height, seed production, and survival.
Intended UseForage for wildlife, biodiversity addition, native plant revegetation.
