DescriptionSimilar to Texoka in morphological appearance, adaptation, and forage yield and quality. Tests in Oklahoma indicated Bison to have a 24% advantage over Texoka in pure live seed yield. Tests of esterase and peroxidase isoenzymes established genetic difference between Bison and Texoka.

Breeding MethodBison is a synthetic variety, derived from two male and two female clonal plants. The male and female parents of Mesa, plus a superior plant of each sex selected from Texoka, constitute the parents. Selections from Texoka were made in 1982 from the original one-acre Foundation seed increase block planted on the S.W. Forage and Livestock Research Station (SWFLRS), El Reno, OK, in the early 1970s.
