DescriptionSub-erect to slightly decumbent growth habit. Foiliage dies back in winter regardless of geographic location planted. Strong stems fall over, trap sand, and produce a root-stem network. Established only vegetatively at present.
SourceNative collection from near Wanchese, Dare County, NC, by Dr. S. Broome, (North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC), 1972.
Breeding MethodSelected from a collection from North Carolina State University. Evaluated at NC Experiment Station, Clayton, and transferred to Brooksville Plant Materials Center where it was additionally evaluated. In field plantings in combination with more southerly accessions, it was sole survivor.
Intended UseCoastal dune erosion control plantings in area of the Carolinas and northward.
