DescriptionThe Columbia site receives 10" average annual precipitation. Columbia is a much better seed producer than most bluebunch wheatgrasses. Like other bluebunch wheatgrasses, it shatters.
Breeding MethodIdentified as an accession with high seed yield originating from an arid site. One cycle of recurrent selection for vigor following clipping and two cycles for spike production and erect habit were applied.
Intended UseIntended for rangeland restoration, fire rehabilitation, and mineland reclamation in the Great Basin, Snake River Plain, and Columbia Plateau.
Release Infoto be released 2004, USDA-ARS, Logan, Utah, the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, and USDA-NRCS; Selected-class pre-variety germplasm (genetically manipulated track). Seed not available until 2006.
