DescriptionCimarron proved significantly better in forage production and disease resistance than other strains or cultivars in extensive trials over its range of adaptation. It has been grown where annual precipitation is as low as 300 mm. Performance has been good on all types of soils, except where high salinity, alkalinity, or excessive weed competition is a problem.
SourceCollected from many sites in southwest Kansas and panhandle of Oklahoma by SCS personnel in 1959 at approximate elevation of 764-1,070 m and precipitation of 380-500 mm.
Breeding MethodCollections bulked to establish increase field. Natural selection under combine harvesting for more uniform maturity.
Intended UseRange reseeding and revegetation of disturbed areas.
